If you melt, refine, or cast metals, the graphite crucible is one of the few consumables that decides both your yield and your metal purity. Choosing the right crucible — and the right maker behind it — matters. Expo Advanced Materials Pvt. Ltd. (Expo Graphite & Composites) is a factory-direct graphite crucible manufacturer in India, machining precision graphite crucibles from our own ISO 9001:2015-controlled plants in Noida since 2010.
This guide explains the types of graphite crucible we manufacture, how to match one to your melt, and why buying direct from an Indian manufacturer — rather than through a trading portal or reseller — gives you documented quality at a lower landed cost.
What Is a Graphite Crucible?
A graphite crucible is a container machined from graphite — either solid (monolithic) isostatic or extruded graphite, or a graphite-clay composite — used to hold, melt, or process metals and alloys at high temperature. Graphite suits the job because it is highly heat-resistant, chemically inert to most molten metals, and conducts heat evenly for a faster, more uniform melt. The trade-off is oxidation in open air above roughly 400–450 °C, which is why crucible type must match your furnace atmosphere. For the full technical breakdown of every crucible type and a step-by-step selection method, see our companion guide, Graphite Crucibles: Types, Properties and Applications.
Types of Graphite Crucible We Manufacture
“Graphite crucible” covers several quite different products. As a manufacturer rather than a stockist, we machine each type to your drawing or standard sizes:
- Isostatic (machined monolithic) graphite crucibles — CNC-machined from a solid isostatic billet, the highest-purity option. In purified grades such as IG-110 (<10 ppm ash) and IG-430U (<5 ppm ash), these are the correct choice for semiconductor crystal growth, solar-PV directional solidification, and vacuum/inert-atmosphere induction melting where trace contamination cannot be tolerated. See our graphite crucible with rod and standard machined graphite crucible.
- Extruded graphite crucibles — machined from extruded billet, a lower-cost workhorse for industrial vacuum induction melting and glass work under a protective atmosphere. Our graphite double-ring crucible is a common configuration for this duty.
- Clay-graphite / silicon-carbide-graphite (foundry) crucibles — the traditional open-air foundry type, with a binder matrix that resists oxidation for direct melting of aluminium, copper, zinc, and precious metals in oil, gas, and electric-resistance furnaces. We can cross-reference to common foundry OEM part numbers on request.
Not sure which applies? Our types-and-selection guide walks through it, or send us your melt details for a grade recommendation.
Why Buy Direct from an Indian Graphite Crucible Manufacturer
Search results for graphite crucibles in India are dominated by marketplace listings and resellers who hold no material traceability and machine nothing themselves. Buying direct from the manufacturer changes what you actually receive:
- ISO 9001:2015-controlled production. Every crucible is machined in our graphite-only CNC centres in Noida under a full quality management system, with CMM dimensional inspection.
- Material traceability on every order. We issue a Material Test Certificate (MTC) with each shipment, so you know exactly which grade you received — a document trading portals cannot provide.
- TOYO TANSO CO., LTD. grade pedigree. Expo is an authorised machining partner of TOYO TANSO CO., LTD., Japan, the world’s leading isostatic graphite maker — so high-purity crucibles are machined from genuine, documented isostatic grades.
- Factory-direct pricing. We operate factory-direct with no distributors, wholesalers, or resellers. For high-purity machined crucibles this typically lands 30–45% below European equivalent pricing, on a quote basis against your specification.
- No minimum order. From a single prototype crucible to production batches — MOQ is one piece.
- Export-ready. We ship to 16+ countries with full export documentation (commercial invoice, packing list, BOL/AWB, certificate of origin, MTC, and RoHS on request) on FOB, CIF, DDP, or EXW terms.
How to Select the Right Graphite Crucible
Four questions decide the crucible for your process:
- Which metal are you melting? Aluminium, copper, zinc, tin, lead, and precious metals are compatible. Titanium and reactive alloys attack graphite above ~1,000 °C (forming carbides); molten steel picks up carbon — use these only with the right grade and atmosphere.
- What is the furnace atmosphere? Open-air melting needs oxidation-resistant clay-graphite foundry crucibles; inert-atmosphere or vacuum melting is where monolithic isostatic and extruded grades give their purity advantage.
- How pure must the melt stay? Semiconductor and solar-PV work requires purified isostatic grades (IG-110 at <10 ppm ash, or IG-430U at <5 ppm for the most demanding CVD/MOCVD duty). Standard foundry melting does not.
- What size? Select by metal weight, not volume, and leave 15–20% headspace. We machine to your capacity and geometry rather than forcing a stock size.
Applications We Supply
- Semiconductor & solar PV — high-purity isostatic crucibles for CZ crystal growth and directional solidification (see semiconductor and solar PV).
- Metallurgy & foundry — melting and casting of aluminium, brass, copper, and alloys in induction and fuel-fired furnaces.
- Jewellery & precious metals — clean, contamination-free melting and casting of gold and silver.
- Laboratory & research — high-temperature experiments and analysis needing thermal stability and purity.
Custom Manufacturing & Ordering
As a manufacturer we machine crucibles to your drawing in any graphite grade — standard round, double-ring, crucible-with-rod, or a fully custom geometry. Send a drawing or your application details (metal, furnace type, atmosphere, target purity, and size) and we return a grade recommendation and quotation. Stock configurations typically ship in 3–7 days; custom-machined crucibles in 2–6 weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Expo a graphite crucible manufacturer or a reseller?
A manufacturer. We machine crucibles in-house at our own ISO 9001:2015 graphite-machining plants in Noida, India — factory-direct, with no distributors or resellers in between.
Which graphite grade is best for melting gold and silver?
For jewellery and precious-metal melting, a machined isostatic or extruded graphite crucible gives a clean, contamination-free melt. For open-air furnaces, a clay-graphite foundry crucible is more oxidation-resistant. Tell us your furnace type and we recommend the grade.
Can you make crucibles for semiconductor or solar crystal growth?
Yes. We machine high-purity isostatic crucibles from purified grades such as IG-110 (<10 ppm ash) and IG-430U (<5 ppm ash) for CZ crystal growth and directional solidification.
Do you supply custom sizes and shapes?
Yes — we machine to your drawing with no minimum order quantity, from a single prototype to production batches.
Do you export graphite crucibles from India?
Yes. We export to 16+ countries with full documentation (invoice, packing list, BOL/AWB, certificate of origin, MTC, RoHS on request) on FOB, CIF, DDP, or EXW terms.
What does a graphite crucible cost?
Pricing is quote-based against your grade, size, and quantity. For high-purity machined crucibles our factory-direct pricing typically runs 30–45% below European equivalent pricing.
