Why Graphite Machining Requires Specialist Expertise
Graphite is abrasive, brittle, and produces fine conductive dust. Standard machining centres are not designed for it. Specialist graphite machining requires:
Dedicated CNC machines
Graphite dust is conductive and abrasive. Machines used for graphite cannot also run metal without contamination risk. We run dedicated graphite-only CNC centres.
Carbide and diamond tooling
Standard HSS tooling wears immediately on isostatic graphite. We use solid carbide end mills and diamond-coated tooling for fine-grain grades.
Dust extraction systems
ISO-compliant graphite dust extraction (DEU) is mandatory for operator safety and dimensional accuracy. Dust in measurement equipment gives false readings.
Fragile edge handling
Graphite has no plastic deformation — sharp corners chip at the point of cut. Tool paths must be designed to avoid interrupted cuts that cause micro-chipping on fine features.

Types of Graphite Parts We Machine
EDM electrodes
Solid, multi-cavity, thread, micro and contour electrodes from ISO-88, SF, IG-430U, and TTK-8 grades. Tolerance ±0.01 mm.
Vacuum furnace heating elements
U, meander, and ring heating elements from TTK-8 and TTK-87. Machined slots, tabs, and connection features.
Crucibles
Round, square and custom-geometry graphite crucibles for crystal growth, smelting, and high-temperature sintering. Sizes from 20 mm to 600 mm diameter.
Sintering dies & punches
Hot press and SPS dies machined from ISO-63 and TTK-8. Precise bore diameter and perpendicularity for net-shape sintering.
Furnace fixtures & trays
Flat trays, zig-zag fixtures, spacers, pins, and custom work-holding parts for vacuum and atmosphere furnaces.
Bearings & bushings
Graphite plain bearings for high-temperature applications (up to 400 °C in air, 3000 °C in inert). Self-lubricating, no deformation.
Nozzles & flow components
Graphite nozzles, pouring nozzles, and flow-control components for molten metal, glass fibre, and high-temperature fluid handling.
Semiconductor components
Wafer carriers, susceptors, boats, paddles, and chamber liners for CVD, oxidation, and diffusion furnaces. Grade: IG-430U or TTK-87.

Simple blocks / plates

Single-setup flat parts with basic tolerances from TTK-8 or ISO-88 billet.
EDM electrodes
$30–$150 per part
Complexity and grade dependent. ISO-88 electrodes typically $30–60; IG-430U 2–3× higher.
Complex 3D profiles

5-axis parts, semiconductor components, crucibles, and precision heating elements.
